About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE SIENNA MARBLE GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED MAHOGANY ONE-DRAWER SIDE TABLE

Labeled by Haentges Freres, Paris ca. 1910

29 1/8" H x 17 1/4" D x 25 1/4" W

An incredibly fine and stylish example of the Belle Epoque by the Parisian boutique furniture designer Haentges Freres, the table features a warm and beautifully figured sienna marble top surrounded by a thick gilt-bronze rim. The front of the apron hides a single full-width drawer with hand-dovetailed construction in the oak secondary woods, the inner left of the drawer retaining the metal plaque for Haentges.

It is raised over molded, tapered and only subtly cabriole legs that are stretched with a full shelf with brilliant matched veneers that create an angular criss-crossed array in the grain. Throughout the table are very finely cast and chiseled mounts, including the infinite-swirling rings in the apron, the bold acanthus and draped garland at the corners and the typical scroll-toe acanthus sabots on each foot.

A very fine acquisition.

Condition:
Very fine original condition. Bright surface throughout, probably refinished in the second-half of the twentieth century. Marble top with a few scuffs and scratches. Minor rubbing and abrading to the finish here and there, overall presenting beautifully. Screws on underside of the stretcher-shelf are replaced.
