About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

GUSTAVE STICKLEY OAK TRESTLE LIBRARY TABLE
Eastwood, New York ca. 1900-15
Oak, marked with red decal and signed

29" H x 29 5/8" D x 48" W

Constructed in quartersawn oak with a rectangular overhanging top supported by two slab-form uprights joined by a broad central stretcher shelf. Each upright is flanked by keyed through-tenon elements, a hallmark of Stickley’s joinery vocabulary during this period. The shaped foot profiles and subtle corbel supports beneath the top contribute to the balanced proportions of the design.

Model 637 was produced in the Eastwood, New York, workshops during the first quarter of the 20th century and reflects Gustav Stickley’s emphasis on honest construction and restrained form characteristic of the early Arts and Crafts movement in America.

The present example is signed with the red compass decal stamped ALS IK KAN and signed in script Gustave Stickley.

Condition: Edge of the table on one side has significant loss to the edge. Stains and discolorations to the top. Early surface throughout, probably not original but beautifully patinated. Sturdy and ready to place.
