About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

PAIR OF EMPIRE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE THREE-LIGHT CANDELABRA
Paris, France ca. 1815-35 | raised on antico verde marble plinths

25 1/2" H x 9" W x 4 1/2" D

A very finely chiseled pair of candelabra from the post-Napoleonic French Restauration period, they feature matched female figurals in Neoclassical garment gingerly holding a pair of long vases in each arm. From these vessels spring curling branches with serrated acanthus leaves and bunches of grapes curling outward to raise candle wells on either side and rising upward to join together lifting a swollen baluster with ram's head masks on either side below the single upper candle well. The figures stand on a gilt bronze plinth resting on a beautifully patinated antico verde marble mounted with masks on the front and jugs on either side. The base is a reeded cove-molded rim over a straight squared bronze plinth. Note the remarkable quality of the chiseling and the brilliant fire gilding. A very fine and remarkably well-preserved pair.

Condition: Old branch repair. One replaced screw in back of figure. Mostly original fire gilding. Wear to gilding on plinth beneath figures and base beneath marble. Trace wear to gilding throughout, tarnish and discolorations. Some regilded elements. Carefully cleaned and waxed. Ready to place.
