Pair of Polychromed and Patinated Bronze Urns | Circa 1880
ITEM #: 001OEJ28
PAIR OF POLYCHROMED AND PATINATED BRONZE URNS
Likely French; unmarked, circa 1880s
Item # 001OEJ28
A very handsome pair of garniture urns in the French taste, they feature a distinct Neo-Greco form with raised handles flanking a domed lid with with a linked relief repeating design under a turned finial. The bronze is chemical patinated to a near-black. These lift off to reveal the finished interior.
The bodies of the urns are perhaps most compelling with a delightful mottled red patination almost devoid of decoration other than the incised double-line and repeating motif of leaves and berries.
Both are raised over an incised socle and raised on a slate plinth.
Measurements: 9 3/4" H x 11 1/8" W (total); base is 4 3/4" W x 4 3/4" D
