PAIR OF SCANDINAVIAN MODERN "SAFARI" CHAIRS ATTRIBUTED TO WILHELM KIENZLE
Lacquered beechwood, brand new artisan-made saddle leather | circa 1970s
Item # 405QXW07S
This exquisite pair of chairs are crafted in the "Safari" style. They exemplify Scandinavian design principles with a perfect balance of functionality and clean austere aesthetics. Designed to be fully disassembled for easy transport, the chair is generally attributed to Wilhelm Kienzle (though we have not found original catalogs for evidence to support the market's attribution). The chair is constructed entirely from solid beechwood, transitioning from squared sections to finely tapered legs, ensuring durability and longevity when properly maintained.
The chair's leatherwork is particularly noteworthy. Recently updated to replace the worn canvas upholstery, the new artisan-made saddle leather adds a touch of luxury and resilience.
** NOTE, unless otherwise requested and quoted, the chairs will ship entirely disassembled to keep shipping costs down for our clients. This means some reassembly of the chairs is required upon receipt. **
We have a large collection of vintage "Safari" chairs from the 1950s through 1970s - browse our gallery stock to view other great examples.
Measurements: 32 1/2" H x 24" D x 24 1/8" W x 14 1/4" H to seat
Condition Report:
Beechwood has a vintage and likely original surface with stains, blemish and wear throughout the wooden frame. Brand new artisan-made leather covering - we did not have the belting originally on the back legs replaced, as it was superfluous for the design and structure, but we can certainly have that belting created upon request. Carriage bolts in the shoulders are solid brass replacements. Exceedingly good presentation. Sturdy, strong and very comfortable.
