About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

PAIR OF BLUE-PAINTED SWEDISH GUSTAVIAN-STYLE BEDSIDE COMMODES
With paint-simulating-stone tops | Northern European, circa 20th century

28" H x 17 1/8" D x 33" W

Of very good quality, this pair of bedside chests are handmade in the Gustavian taste with careful attention to period details and craftsmanship: the hand dovetailing, construction of the back and joinery throughout, carved surface and painted surface are all in keeping with the chests of the Gustavian period. The tops carefully painted to simulate stone tops, these with a projecting molding around the sides over canted and fluted corners with bas-relief rosettes at the top. The fronts are comprised of three drawers, a smaller situated over two equally larger drawers, all three with graduated raised diamonds around raised circles with a single sand-cast bronze ring pull in the center. The chests are raised on tapered fluted feet.

Great size, amazing surface and built to last the test of time. A very fine pair.

Condition: Rubbing, chipping and wear to the paint surface throughout as expected. Ready to place.
