About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

"PLANNER GROUP" WRITING DESK BY PAUL MCCOBB FOR WINCHENDON
USA c. 1953 | stained maple, brass | original label inside top drawer
Item # 109IKL18L

A very fun and iconic "Planner Group" desk by Paul McCobb for Winchendon, the desk is model # 1560 and was executed in maple with a tobacco finish. It is austere and streamlined, the underside of the top beveled to reduce the visual weight of the top and create a floating aesthetic over the extreme angle of the tapered dowel legs. All legs are removable, allowing for easy transport. The inside of the top drawer retains the original Paul McCobb label.

Measurements: 29" H x 48" W x 24 1/8" D, 28 3/8" H to underside of desk

Condition Report:
Overall presents in very good vintage condition throughout; minor wear to legs and finish in a few areas; top refinished and of a slightly brighter hue, very attractive; original pulls; sturdy and stable throughout.
