"SANDPIPER" BRONZE SCULPTURE AFTER PAUL EDOUARD DELABRIERRE
Patinated bronze, signed DELABRIERRE in naturalistic base
Item # 811GJZ18P
An exquisitely detailed 19th century cast of a Sandpiper walking over a rocky ground, it is dimensionally restrained but a fully developed and painstakingly executed. A difficult subject to capture, small birds with their peculiar personalities are some of the most interesting models - the handling of minute details like the feathers, tiny eyes and delicate beaks are difficult to capture and the supporting of the large body over very thin legs requires some technical forethought. Note the exquisite handling of the scaled legs and crisply chiseled feet; the detailing of the base is almost as well handled as that of the bird. It is signed in his typical blocked script "DELABRIERRE" by the bird's rear foot.
Measurements: 5 5/8" H x 6" W x 2 3/4" D
Condition Report:
Excellent original condition. Cleaned and polished. Minor handling wear to relief (including very light rubbing to wing feathers, the tip of tail and edge of ankle).
