About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

MAURICE LEMAÎTRE
French, b. 1929

"Sur la Sèvre Niortaise"

Oil on canvas | Signed lower right, titled verso on stretcher bar in graphite

Item # 105RFP14A

Depicting a brilliant summer day along the Sèvre Niortaise river, the focal point of the scene is the distant barn with tall groves of trees lining the river on either side. A trio of figures on the grassy bank appear to be boys, presumably having just docked their dinghy for an afternoon of exploring. The brushwork is lovely with a chaotic stippled surface supplemented by more vigorous strokes of color. It is signed in the lower right in his typical script "maurice Lemaître". The painting remains in an exceptinoal overall condition, having just returned from our conservator where it was cleaned and resealed in a Damar varnish.

Measurements: 18 1/4" H x 26" W [canvas]; 25 1/8" H x 32 5/8" W x 2 1/2" D [frame]

Condition Report: Professionally cleaned and conserved. No restoration observed under UV examination. A very fine presentation. Giltwood frame with minor chips/nicks/dings.
