CLAUDE MICHEL KNOWN AS CLODION (after)
French, 1738-1814
Maenad & Satyr
Patinated bronze | Signed in cast CLODION | Thiebaut freres foundry pastille verso
Item # 112ZSG02Q
A good late 19th century cast after Clodion's "Maenad & Satyr", it is part of his large series of Bacchanalia and captures the playful faun with a young nymph riding on his back with a Thyrsus aloft her shoulders while she barely maintains her drunken balance grasping one of his horns. The model is a crisp casting executed by Thiebaut freres and sealed with their cachet to the back of the base; it is finished in an overall medium brown translucent patina that glows under wax.
