About us

silla was born out of a passion for beautiful objects: special pieces with aesthetic and historical significance. In 2009, after years of collecting, Andrew Silla and his wife Grace began to work privately with clients from their residence in Southern Maryland. Quickly outgrowing the space, the business was moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania in 2012 and after several warehouse location changes it was firmly settled in the present brick-and-mortar location in downtown Shippensburg.

The 9000 square foot brick-and-mortar gallery is home to a large collection of works of art and estate jewelry. We specialize in sculpture circa 1860 through 1930 with a particular emphasis on the Animaliers and as such the gallery always has a very large collection of exceptional European and American sculpture available on display.

A PAIR OF LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS BY WALTER HEATH WILLIAMS (BRITISH, 1836-1906)
"Harvest", oil on canvas, both in early and probably original frames
Item #  1504KMW30Z

This is an incredibly attractive pair of works by Walter Heath Williams of London.  Born in 1836, Walter Heath Williams developed a rather distinctive style and space for his genre landscape paintings over the course of his career.  He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1845-1867 and was generally active in London until around 1876.  With a tendency and preference for a canvas of 18" x 26", Williams regularly painted pairs of scenes that complimented one another either panoramically or in terms of perspective.

The present pair are no exception, each being a perfectly captured scene of Harvesters at work in a field of wheat beside running water.  Bright and vibrant, the colors of each work are just so striking and nostalgic, the nearly cloudless sky shaded by groves of trees in the forefront while the laborers clear the field.  Both are signed in the lower left/right corners respectively, the back of the stretcher retaining a label from the Parker Gallery in London.
